About ALDI
ALDI is one of America's fastest-growing grocery retailers, operating more than 2,300 stores across 39 states and supporting that store network through a system of large-scale regional distribution centers. Founded in Germany in 1946 and first opened in the United States in 1976, ALDI built its entire business around a simple idea: run a lean, efficient operation and pass the savings directly to the customer. That same efficiency-first philosophy defines how our distribution centers operate — smaller, more capable teams; real cross-training instead of narrow, repetitive tasks; heavy investment in modern material handling and voice-directed technology; and wages built to attract and retain the strongest warehouse talent in every region we serve. ALDI's distribution network moves millions of cases of product every week, and every associate, operator, technician, and leader inside that network plays a direct role in keeping store shelves stocked for the millions of customers who shop with us.
Our Warehouse Team & Culture
Because ALDI runs a lean staffing model at every level of the business, warehouse team members are trusted with real responsibility from day one rather than being confined to a single narrow task for years. Safety, accuracy, and pace are treated as equally important — we invest in modern equipment, structured training, and a genuinely team-based floor culture where associates, operators, technicians, and leaders work side by side rather than in silos. ALDI also promotes heavily from within: a large share of our warehouse supervisors and distribution center managers started their ALDI careers on the warehouse floor.
What Our Team Says (Employee Reviews)
"Running this facility means owning a real business unit - I review the full P&L with regional leadership monthly, I own our safety record, and I am building the leadership bench that will run our next distribution center. The scope of accountability here is the most significant I have carried in twenty years in logistics." - Current Distribution Center Manager, Jeffersonville, IN.
Role Overview
As an ALDI Distribution Center Manager, you hold full operational and financial leadership of a regional distribution center - directly responsible for the facility's P&L, safety performance, labor management, and its ability to reliably supply every store in its service territory. Functional leaders across inbound, outbound, inventory control, maintenance, and transportation report through your leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
- Full P&L Ownership: Manage the distribution center's complete operating budget - labor cost, equipment maintenance spend, and controllable expenses - against weekly and period targets, and present the facility's financial performance to regional leadership.
- Safety & Compliance Leadership: Own the facility's overall safety program and OSHA compliance record, setting the safety culture standard for the building and ensuring every incident is investigated, documented, and addressed through corrective action.
- Labor & Workforce Planning: Oversee staffing and labor budget planning across all shifts, working with Warehouse Supervisors and HR to maintain the headcount, scheduling, and training pipeline the facility's volume requires.
- Leadership Team Management: Directly manage the facility's leadership team - including Warehouse Supervisors, the Maintenance Manager, and the Inventory Control Manager - setting performance expectations and developing bench strength for future leadership roles.
- Continuous Improvement & Capacity Planning: Lead continuous improvement initiatives to raise throughput, reduce cost per case, and improve selection accuracy, and partner with regional logistics leadership on capacity planning as store growth increases volume demand.
- Store Service Level Accountability: Maintain full accountability for the distribution center's on-time, in-full delivery performance to every store in its territory, resolving any systemic service issue at its root cause rather than treating it as a one-time exception.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field strongly preferred.
- 5 or more years of progressive distribution center or warehouse operations leadership experience, including direct P&L accountability.
- Demonstrated experience managing a large hourly workforce (200+ employees) across multiple shifts.
- Strong working knowledge of warehouse management systems, labor management systems, and distribution KPIs.
- Experience with lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies preferred.
- Proven track record of building and developing a multi-layered leadership team.
- Strong analytical, financial, and cross-functional communication skills suitable for regional leadership reporting.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This role combines significant time on the distribution center floor with time in leadership meetings, financial reviews, and cross-functional planning sessions. Distribution Center Managers must be available to respond to significant operational issues across all shifts, including nights and weekends when required by the facility's operating schedule.
